General Description
At Popular, cloud computing continues to allow us to modernize and consolidate IT infrastructure, automate workloads, and pursue next-generation innovation. To continue this transformation, we seek an experienced Cloud engineer (Sr. Systems Engineer) with expertise in the strategy, design, development, and implementation of large-scale projects in the cloud. The ideal candidate is experienced in cloud-based tech, with a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications and the ability to customize them to help our business become more secure and efficient.
In this position, you will:
- Work with our engineering team to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the company
- Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance
- Provide guidance, thought leadership, and mentorship to development teams to build cloud competencies
- Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful design
- Manage cloud environments following company security guidelines
- Assists with the implementation of Cloud Architecture solutions based on defined standards for Cloud COE - from an Application and Infrastructure perspective
- Participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures
- Assist with the design of reference Architecture for the implementation of codified stacks that meet the needs of the applications
- Repositories & registries for build/deployment artifacts
- Assists with the analysis of the application portfolios and migration feasibility
- Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives, providing associated training as required
- Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity
To be considered, you will need:
- 5+ years of experience architecting, designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions
- Familiarity with AWS Well-Architected Framework and Cloud migration industry standards and best practices
- 10+ years of relevant IT experience
- 5+ years of experience as an enterprise systems administrator in a client or server environment, including deployment automation tools, such as Ansible, Cloudformation
- Extensive knowledge of Linux-based systems, including Hardware, software, networking, and storage
- Understanding of DevOps methodologies
- Experience in several of the following areas: database architecture, ETL, business intelligence, big data, machine learning, advanced analytics
- Proven ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of business analysts, developers, data scientists, and subject matter experts
Location
The position can be based in Chicago, Miami, or Puerto Rico.
Education
Bachelor's Degree: Computer Science, engineering, or related fields.
Preferred Certifications
Certifications in Amazon Web Services, including Solutions Architect, Developer, Google Cloud, or Azure are highly desirable.
