Director (Retail Banking)

SFL Retail Banking

The Retail Banking Director leads and executes the strategy for Retail Banking, Treasury Management, and Business Banking across the assigned Region. Accountable for financial performance (P&L), new business development, customer experience, hiring, coaching, and complying with all policies and procedures. In addition, accountable for face-to-face delivery of PB’s operating budget including overall structure, sales goals, profit and loss performance, leads/sales prospect management, and overall customer experience. Ensure that all sales team within Retail Banking, Treasury Management, and Business Banking are executing strategy to meet client needs through a need-based consultative sales process, increase client share of wallet, and cross-sell products and distribution channels.

 

In this position, you will:

P/L Management

  • Fully accountable for managing the Retail Banking, Treasury Management, and Business Banking budget by ensuring revenues and expenses meet or exceed established goals.

Sales Management

  • Overall responsibility for Retail Banking, Treasury Management, and Business Banking performance.
  • Implement regional sales strategy, leveraging technology, with an emphasis on identifying customer opportunities; develop and implement business plans based on local market drivers.
  • Execute a strategy that migrates routine and lower-value activities to direct or assisted channels, allowing Retail Banking, Treasury Management, and Business Banking to focus on high-value sales and transactions.
  • Deliver initiatives to generate income, contain costs, mitigate or reduce operational losses, and strengthen community relationships.
  • Articulate customer needs, behaviors, and preferences to marketing and product teams to ensure identified customer needs are reflected in marketing and product development.
  • Institute a sales and service culture with a sharp focus on providing clients with a best-in-class customer experience that reflects authenticity, warmth, competence, and simplicity.
  • Support new marketing campaigns and product launches; develop micro-marketing efforts to achieve sales results and ensure all resources are utilized to meet regional goals.
  • Foster collaboration and partnership with peers in Popular’s Commercial and Wealth Management Divisions by developing a robust two-way flow of business referrals.
  • Develop a strong community network of local leaders and businesses to promote active involvement within the community.

Leadership

  • Lead and develop an effective team, including Area Managers, Business Banking Lead, Treasury Management Lead, Branch Managers, and their teams, through communication, performance management, development plans, coaching, and implementation of reward and recognition practices.
  • Ensure all Areas are appropriately resourced by recruiting and retaining high-quality, customer-centric talent.

Operations

  • Manage the processes, infrastructure, and resources needed to deliver agreed-upon team plans and targets; identify and implement improvements and collaborate with colleagues to maximize integration, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Maintain a robust and efficient control environment across the Region to ensure strong operational, financial, and project management discipline, as well as compliance with Popular’s policies and procedures, including early identification, escalation, and resolution of issues.

To be considered, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university and a minimum of twelve years of proven and progressive branch banking and business banking/commercial or equivalent related experience and training. Prior experience as an Area Manager preferred.
  • Strong strategic mindset, people management, sales management, planning, financial leadership, motivational and sales skills.
  • Strong ability to use numerical data to develop tactical plans within the context of defined strategic plans and change them as warranted by results.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; develops alternative solutions.
