Corporate Communications U.S.

 

The Communications Officer will be a part of the Corporate Communications team and focus on developing and implementing communications strategies for Popular Bank and assist Popular, Inc. to ensure communications alignment. The candidate will manage relationships across Popular Bank including division leaders and team members within legal and compliance, branch communications, HR, marketing and Popular Bank Foundation.

In this position, you will:

 

  • Support the communication of our messaging (internal and external), implement our communications strategies, and develop tactics across all business verticals that enhance Popular’s reputation and service to our customers and communities.
     
  • Provide a strategic point of view and input on reputational issues related to Environmental, Social and Governance activities as well as diversity and inclusion.  Also actively represent the institution in philanthropic opportunities with non-profits and on community relations matters.
     
  • Serve as a partner to our executive leaders, providing communication guidance and support across audiences, tactics, channels, measurement, and initiatives that are proactive and reactive.
     
  • Prepare and edit internal communications, press releases, articles, marketing communications and messages for executives.
     
  • Develop ideas and opportunities for blog postings, feature articles, interviews, presentations, and other public relations activities that promote awareness of the company and its products or services, programs, accomplishments, or point of view.
     
  • Serve as the start-to-finish communications point person for all media and thought leadership opportunities, including interviews, speaking events, editorial partnerships and awards. Responsibilities include vetting opportunities, developing collateral, presentation training and driving visibility around participation. 
     
  • Coordinate communications efforts to meet needs, objectives, and policies of individual, special interest group, business concerns, nonprofit organization, or governmental agency, serving as in-house staff member or as outside consultant.
     
  • Partner with marketing and advertising teams to coordinate activities with promotional and sales activities across all Popular Bank communication channels. 
     
  • Track and report success of ongoing projects using meaningful metrics and analysis. 
     
  • Manage budget. 
     
  • Manage Popular’s resources including agency relationships. 
     
  • Assist in ongoing and ad hoc Corporate-wide initiatives, including Environmental Social Governance (ESG), Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and emergency response initiatives.
     
  • Applies organization's public relations strategies, policies, and procedures.

To be considered, you will need:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in in English, Journalism, Political Science, Business Administration, Marketing, or Communications from a four-year accredited college or university and two years related experience; or a combination of education and experience.
     
  • 5-7 years’ experience in marketing, public relations (agency experience) and event planning. 
     
  • Knowledge of project coordination, identification of business needs, work plan, budget control, time management, resource allocation, team management and status reports. Must demonstrate leadership, logic, and reasoning skills.
     
  • Demonstrated experience in working independently across several lines of business, including executive-level employees, to execute diverse project requests.
     
  • Knowledge of community affairs, media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform via written, oral, and visual media.
     
  • Proven experience with internal and external and social media.
     
  • Excellent relationship management, communication and presentation skills. 
     
  • Ability to understand and speak Spanish preferred.
