Financial Consultant Associate

This position is responsible for seeking business for the Popular Investments unit and their broker-dealer through bank customers and potential customers by building effective relationships and trust and providing excellent customer experience.  This position counsels and advises customers regarding their financial holdings and offers financial products & services including mutual funds, equity-linked CDs, life insurance, and annuities to clients for investment purposes.

In this position, you will:

 

  • Evaluate customers relative to their financial needs, current situation & holdings, and available investment capital by profiling and uncovering their needs and educating them about the products and services that are most appropriate for their situation, including cross-referrals back to the bank for loans and deposit products.
  • Help the client to identify their investment objectives.
  • Pro-actively seek information from clients and prospective clients to understand possible changing situations, needs and desired benefits and evaluate product or service alternatives.
  • Establish and maintain thorough prospect files and notes. Review and access on a scheduled basis.
  • Open, transfer, and close customer accounts as necessary.
  • Follow up promptly on customer service requests, for withdrawals, changes, and other needs.
  • Maintain appropriate account records and ensure all documentation required is provided and completed.
  • Obtain and verify all customer purchases and sales instructions, enter orders and follow-up on completion of all transactions.
  • Responsible for the explanation of the organization, participants, and functions of various securities markets and the principal factors that impact them.
  • Monitor customer’s portfolio and make recommendations consistent with changes in economic and financial condition as well as the customer’s needs and objectives.
  • Ensure duties are performed in accordance with just and equitable principles of trade, federal and state laws and industry regulations.
  • Position will include additional sales development responsibilities as the sales process builds.
     

 

To be considered, you will need:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with related experience in financial services or retail organization required. Comparable work experience can be considered.
  • 2+ years counselling customers and selling financial products desirable.
  • FINRA Series 6, 63, and state insurance licensing required.  FINRA Series 7 (and 65 or 66) to be obtained within 12 months.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Capability to learn quickly and achieve proficiency in new software applications as needed.
  • Banking – Current knowledge of banking products, services, policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance related to area of responsibility.  Complete knowledge of all securities products, sales and service techniques.
  • Operational/Regulatory Processes – Knowledge on budget administration, resources allocation, organization’s policies, regulations, objectives, and initiatives according to the job’s responsibilities.  Ability to establish, conduct and track (audit) operational processes properly, and implement changes.
  • Investments – Knowledge of financial products and services related to investment activities.
  • Marketing and Product Management – Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services.  This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.  Knowledge of internal and competitors’ products and services to provide quality in service advise.
  • Sales - Demonstrates excellent sales ability, presentation skills, negotiation skills and marketing techniques to deal effectively with individuals and groups within and outside the organization.  Demonstrates ability to interview effectively and use various interpersonal styles and communication methods depending on customer and situation to gain their acceptance of a product or service.

Base Salary & Benefits

Our base salary for this position located in New York generally ranges between  $62,400.00 and $62,400.00  annually, depending on business need and on your qualifications and experience. Base salary does not include incentive compensation, commission, or any other type of remuneration or benefits.

In addition to salary, Popular's well-rounded benefits package for regular full-time and part-time employees includes a comprehensive health plan, flexible time off options, and savings and investment plans. Seasonal/temporary employees are not eligible for these benefits.”
