Popular Private Client Operations

The Popular Private Client Operations Manager will lead the entire day-to-day operations of the national private banking platform, with a principal focus on driving operational excellence for the overall business.  It is the objective of the National Operations Manager to collaborate with the National Head of Popular Private Client to ensure the highest levels of operational excellence and efficiency, with equal focus on ensuring a best-in-class customer experience and overall business profitability.  This role has principal responsibility for all departmental operational and third-party vendor components and workflows for Popular Private Client.  This management position reports to the Managing Director of the Wealth Management and Private Banking Division and will serve as a member of the Division Management team.

This role manages operations and support activities for several services, products, or specialized areas under their responsibility by performing the following duties personally, or through subordinate employees.

In this position, you will:

  • Acting at the direction of the Managing Director of Wealth Management and Private Banking, be responsible for overall direction and control of all operations related activities of the private banking unit, including development and execution of strategy, modeling and approach for all operational aspects of the private banking business line.
  • In concert with the National Head of Popular Private Client, jointly develop, draft, revise and implement departmental policies, procedures and protocols applicable to the business.
  • Oversee and manage administration and execution of Popular Private Client product offerings and coordinate with relevant internal units in connection with same to ensure mitigation of credit, operational, legal and regulatory risk.
  • Coordinate with the management team of entire Wealth Management and Private Banking Division to develop and implement an integrated overall strategy and operational model to foster optimal collaboration and partnership across all units in delivering a best-in-class client experience.
  • Continually review internal processes and procedures and proactively develop and implement operational efficiencies.
  • Manage external and internal audits and coordinate with Popular Private Client Staff to timely address and resolve findings.
  • Prepare work schedules and assign duties to subordinates to ensure efficient operation of department or unit.
  • Audit and review departmental records and reports to ensure compliance with standard procedures, policies and practices.
  • Compile required and specialized reports on operating functions of the department and third-party vendors. Compile and accurately report all financial data as required by internal controls and external regulations or as otherwise required.
  • Conduct staff meetings to discuss operational matters and explain changes to practices and procedures. Train, mentor, and evaluate employees to improve efficiency and ensure conformance to standard procedures and practices.

To be considered, you will need:


  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience in full time private banking operations role or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of management experience.


  • Highly proficient knowledge of budget administration, resource allocation, performance tracking and financial modeling.  Ability to establish, conduct and track operational processes properly and to implement changes to drive effectiveness and operational excellence.
  • High degree of knowledge and proficiency in all material aspects of private banking, operational risk management and compliance management together with a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and best in-class industry practices with respect to same.
  • Demonstrated abilities and experience managing third party vendors in the performance of their respective obligations and performing necessary audits, assessments, and quality control metrics to ensure adherence with contractual obligations and applicable law.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of client service operations.
  • Highly effective in proactively managing interdepartmental teams and third parties in the enhancement of products, processes and delivery models impacting the business unit with focus in driving on-time execution of same.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with proven leadership skills and the ability to influence and educate others.
  • Ability to analyze complex projects or situations and segment into constituent parts.
  • Proven ability to adapt and support changes in operational models that challenge traditional operating methodologies.
  • Brokerage experience preferred.  

Occasional overnight travel will be required.
