About Our Branch Trainee Program

Popular has an established Branch Trainee Program for candidates that aspire to pursue a career in retail branch management. During the program, selected candidates will have the opportunity to receive training and complete different job rotations through a 12-month period where they will gain the knowledge and experience required to perform the Assistant Branch Manager or the Business Banking Officer roles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•    Receives training related to the functions of branches supervisory roles and the  Small Business Officer role.
•    Performs the duties of these roles in branches and several departments during different job rotations. Learns staff functions, operations, management viewpoints, and company policies and practices that affect retail and commercial businesses.
•    Participates in assigned projects identified Retail Banking Group.
•    Observes experienced employees to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures, and standards required for performance of branch duties.
•    Attends company-sponsored training classes and trainings to promote their professional development. Trainee performance progress will be monitored with management and key trainers.
 

Education Requirements

•    Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a mayor in Accounting, Finance, Marketing or Management
•    Earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better
 

Experience

•    Participation in internship or university interchange programs
•    Participation in leadership roles 
•    Experience working in customer service and sales for a period of up to 4 years
 

Other Qualifications

•    Ability to lead others by establishing clear priorities and objectives, motivates the team and fosters a climate of respect, diversity and inclusion
•    Develops and maintains effective working relationships with peers, team members, other departments and units to achieve a common goal with collaborative efforts
•    Effectively leads to change and uses the most effective tools and processes to execute.  
•    Adapts quickly to change and supports others to adapt as well.
•    Understands and anticipates the needs of internal and external customers, meeting their expectations and requirements. Uses customer needs as basis for decision making and organizational action.
•    Stays focused on main issues, prevents irrelevant issues or distractions from interfering with timely completion of assignments.  Collects, researches and complements data; synthesizes complex or diverse information.  Demonstrates attention to detail; applies design principles; generate creative solutions.  Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; develops alternative solutions.
•    Polished presentation skills.
•    Strong oral and written communication skills in Spanish (advanced level) and English (intermediate level). Fully bilingual (English/Spanish), preferable.
•    Knowledge of the following MS programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook among others.
•    Available and willing to work out of regular business hours, weekends and holidays.
