Compliance Officer

General Description

This position requires providing support in the planning, development, and deployment of the Regulatory & Financial Compliance Training Program across all Popular companies. This includes content development, tracking of training completion and reporting. Support extends to the Corporate Compliance Program, First Line Training Programs, and compliance professional training program. The position also requires providing support in the management of internal audits and regulatory exams. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, deployment, and oversight of the yearly Regulatory & Financial Compliance Training Program. This includes, but is not limited to, designing the structure of the training program, preparing, and delivering roll-out presentations across all Popular companies, developing training materials, editing of training content including third party content and monitoring and ensuring compliance with the program.
  • Organizing facilities and details such as catering, venue, transportation, invitee list, special guests, lodging, materials, and training resources for corporate training events.
  • Coordinate and follow-up on compliance training and training reporting, including reporting to Popular’s senior management. 
  • Collect data to respond in a timely fashion to all information requests in connection with audits, regulatory examinations or revisions. Gather and review data and training materials, maintain updated repositories, and ensure issues identified are appropriately tracked and addressed.  
  • Support and advise in the deployment of First Line of Defense training programs. 
  • Support in identifying and assessing future and current training needs [for compliance professionals through job analysis, career paths, annual performance appraisals and consultation with Regulatory and Financial Compliance managers. 
  • Support and advice in drawing up an overall or individualized training and development plan that addresses needs and expectations for compliance professionals. 
  • Support in submission process for CLE credits. 
  • Analyze training data and support in the creation of dashboards and in the implementation of data management solutions. 
     

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related fields

Juris Doctor - Preferred

Experience

At least three to five years of experience working with consumer protection regulations from a compliance or operational perspective or with consumer protection training within the financial industry. Expertise and knowledge of banking operations and applicable regulations is preferred. 

Other Qualifications

•    Licensed as attorney in at least one jurisdiction (preferred).
•    Knowledge of Excel (required), Canva, Vyond, Forms and Power Bi (preferred). 
•    Excellent written and oral communication (Spanish and English), as well as excellent interpersonal skills to effectively deliver training and collaborate with other departments and stakeholders. 
•    Strong time management and organizational skills. Candidates should be able to prioritize tasks efficiently in order to manage and comply with multiple deadlines. 
•    Strategic mindset, analytical and critical thinking skills to assess training needs, evaluate the effectiveness of training programs with a risk-based approach, and make necessary improvements. 
•    Leadership and influence to drive the adoption of training programs and promote a culture of learning and development within the organization.
•    Ability to influence others, serve as mediator, be process driven, and have high attention to detail.
•    Creative and innovative approach to training design. Candidate must be able to create engaging and effective training programs, materials, and content on legal and risk management subjects.
•     Must have the ability to research, track, update, and communicate compliance concerns.
•    Candidate should stay well informed on current regulatory matters, hot topics trends and enforcement actions. 
•    Driven personality, open to learn and use technology applications as part of their responsibilities.
