  • This position requires you to work sitting down and using telephone equipment all the time.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, extended hours, and holidays is also required if necessary.

General Description

Responsible for contacting customers with delinquent accounts to secure payment arrangements, collect outstanding balances, and resolve payment issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contact customers by phone to provide guidance and ensure payment of delinquent accounts.
  • Engage with customers to identify reasons for delinquency and provide guidance on payment alternatives, debt restructuring, and obtain verbal payment agreements.
  • Receive payments and accurately record transactions in the customer’s account in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Update financial and demographic information and document collection efforts in the appropriate systems.
  • Perform skip tracing when necessary using available tools such as postal inquiries and other relevant sources.
  • Maintain productivity and quality metrics in accordance with Division standards.
  • Comply with internal collection policies, confidentiality requirements, and customer service practices.
  • Identify and report situations impacting processes, systems, or consumer account collection management.
  • Work closely with external adjusters to align on assigned collection accounts and daily work routes.
  • Collaborate on departmental initiatives as needed based on operational needs or supervisor assignment.

Education

24 credits approved from a University or Accredited Institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

At least one year of related experience in collections or customer service.

Other Qualifications

  • Strong customer service and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and can work in groups.
  • Ability to manage difficult situations with clients.
  • Communication skills spoken and written in Spanish and English (preferred).
  • Ability to establish priorities and work on multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations applicable to the collection of money.
