General Description

As a Data Steward, you will be part of the Data Governance Program Office and will be responsible for communicating the importance of treating data as an asset throughout the organization and solicit ongoing feedback and recommendations. In this role, you’ll focus on identifying Key Data Elements (KDEs), providing guidance on business definitions for identified KDEs. You’ll also design the process and facilitate discussions to define data quality rules for each of the KDEs in collaboration with Product Managers/Product Owners.  

The Data Steward ensures that all work efforts are in line with the overall business objectives, establishes prioritization criteria, and makes sure that data Governance is included on projects. The responsibilities also include formulating and maintaining processes, managing Data Stewardship Council meetings, reviewing, and managing issues, formulating, and implementing Data Governance metrics, and creating and updating progress scorecards.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Promote Data as an Asset 

  • Communicate the importance of treating data as an asset throughout the organization and solicit ongoing feedback and recommendations. 

  • Develop and promote conceptual business information models and enterprise information diagrams for utilization throughout the Associations. 

  • Understand key business processes that create and utilize key data elements. 

  • Provide guidance and training to Data Owners/Business Data Stewards on data management strategies around the criticality of the sources and uses of data, which in turn ensures high data quality throughout development work and into production environments. 

  • Facilitate quick wins that can be transformed into repeatable process and long-term solutions in the organization. 

  • Assist in the defining of a roadmap to prioritize the initiatives to manage and govern the Associations’ key

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Data Quality 

  • Collaborate with data owners in developing data metrics and reports to effectively monitor and promote data quality. 

  • Facilitate discussion between teammates involved with individual process, aid in problem solving for enterprise failures, define business materiality, and drive to accountability for resolution. 

  • Define business aspects of the quality assurance plan (reasonable data ranges, data profiles, and possible approaches) and contribute to the design of visualizations for system health as part of the project. 

  • Design the process and facilitate the discussion to define data quality rules associated with each KDEs and ensure monitoring of rules are appropriately defined and managed 

Owner of Enterprise Business Glossary 

  • Defines and maintains an enterprise business glossary solution that meets key stakeholder’s business needs. 

  • Ensures the ability to identify changes in organizational strategies that alters the business glossaries. 

  • Facilitate discussions with key stakeholders to determine an enterprise framework to ensure data definitions are created and regularly updated in the business glossary.



  • 4 Year / Bachelor’s Degree Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Statistics or equivalent training and experience preferred. 



  • 3+ years Data Governance, Data Management, Data Privacy or related experience (Relevant company knowledge/experience may off-set some of the technical requirement) 

  • Significant experience in creating or managing data governance program and providing data management leadership 

  • Experience with Business Process Improvement and Data Management 

  • 8+ years of experience in a data intensive environment 

  • Experience with Metadata and Data Quality improvement practices and techniques 

  • Working knowledge of Design Thinking Techniques 

  • Relationship-building and the ability to work with a variety of different stakeholders with competing priorities 

  • Understands the business acumen and financials associated with a technology/software-driven business 

  • Proven ability to analyze performance, research, financial and competitive data to drive strategic and tactical recommendations 

  • Ability to navigate at all levels in the organization and interact effectively and confidently with audiences of varying skill sets and authority
