Job Type

General Description 

An employee with the Data Scientist role is responsible for modeling complex problems, discovering insight, identifying opportunities using statistics, machine learning and visualization techniques, and productionalizing such solutions. The data scientist will have the responsibility of deploying the MLOps pipelines and processes. In addition, a Data Scientist in the Artificial Intelligence team will lead AI research and implementation. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Work with stakeholders throughout Popular to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business results and strategize to implement them in production. 

  • Analyze data for trends and patterns. 

  • Develop data models and algorithms best suited to particular scenarios. 

  • Assess the effectiveness of the data model 

  • Clearly communicate the results of analysis and potential outcomes of models to key decisions makers 

  • Coordinate with different functional teams within Popular the implementation of data models 

  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy. 

  • Create and manage AI standards and governance. 

  • Research and implement new AI trends and technologies. 

 

Experience 

  • Strong experience using Python, R, or another programming language to manipulate data, visualize, and draw insights from large data sets. 

  • Strong knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (SVM, decision trees, random forest, neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks. 

  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical testing, etc.). 

  • Knowledge of relational databases and SQL 

  • Knowledge of Machine Learning / statistical frameworks, such as Jupyter, AWS, Azure ML, Knime, SAS, Strata, etc. 

  • Experience with MLOps standards and processes 

  • Experience deploying data science or machine learning models into AWS 

  • Experience with visualization tools such as Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, etc. 

 

Education 

Bachelor’s / master’s degree in: 

  • Computer Science 

  • Engineering 

  • Statistics
