Financial Analyst

General Description

Popular, Inc. is seeking a Financial / Corporate Development Analyst to support M&A, venture capital, inorganic growth initiatives, and financial validation of organic growth projects. The Analyst will report to a Senior Manager and work with the Acquisitions and Corporate Investments Division Manager, with exposure to CEO, CFO, and other key corporate executives in the full M&A cycle, including identification of opportunities, financial analysis, valuation, due diligence, negotiation, execution, and integration, as well as project management responsibilities. The Analyst will also support venture capital investments through the Popular Impact Fund, including execution of fund investments processes, such as sourcing, screening, due diligence, valuation, transaction execution, portfolio monitoring and fund administration activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

M&A – Corporate Development

  • Identify and evaluate markets, sectors, and businesses aligned with Popular’s growth strategy.
  • Build financial models for M&A transactions and VC investments (transaction value, synergies and return on investment, risk-adjusted NPV, comparable transactions, market multiples) using Excel and advanced analytics tools.
  • Review legal transaction documents (SPA, APA, term sheets, SAFEs, subscription agreements), as required on a deal-by-deal basis.
  • Lead project management across M&A transaction workstreams, covering execution and post-closing integration.

Popular Impact Fund

  • Manage the end-to-end investment process for the Popular Impact Fund — from opportunity sourcing and screening through due diligence coordination across commercial, financial, legal, and technical workstreams, investment memo preparation, transaction document review, negotiation and closing.
  • Prepare and present materials for investment committee reviews and Board of Managers (BoM) meetings.
  • Monitor portfolio company performance by collecting and analyzing financials, tracking KPIs, and flagging potential valuation or impairment triggers
  • Produce quarterly and annual fund reports covering schedule of investments, performance metrics (IRR, MOIC), capital deployment, and regulatory disclosures (SOX, FR Y-10).
  • Administer fund operations, including transaction documentation, disbursement coordination, and investment record-keeping in compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting

Experience

 At least three years of experience in: 

  •  Managing and analyzing financial information is required. 
  •  Working with financial institutions preferred, but not required.
  • Investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, corporate development, private equity, or venture capital preferred, but not required.

Other Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skill in the analysis and interpretation of business financial information.
  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills.
  • Ability to build financial projections, present findings, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to evaluate economic indicators and the cost / benefits of financial transactions.
  • High level of organization to establish priorities, work with multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Initiative and judgment to make decisions within the framework of authority granted.
  • Ability to work under pressure and minimum supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Advanced communication skills in English and Spanish, both oral and written.
  • Presentation skills before groups and individuals.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Skill to work with different financial information systems.
  • Flexibility to travel in and out of Puerto Rico.
