Senior Business Analyst / Segment Strategy

General Description

The Senior Business Analyst (Segment Strategy) supports the Segment Management team in evaluating, defining, and executing growth initiatives for retail customers across key segments. 

The Segment Management team develops segment strategies, assesses customer needs, aligns stakeholders, and moves initiatives from idea to execution.

This role provides structured analysis and insights to aid decision-making.

This role identifies customer needs, business opportunities, and execution requirements, delivering actionable recommendations and presentations to inform strategic decisions. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic & Segment Analysis Support

  • Conduct market, customer, and internal data analysis to support segment baselines, sub-segmentation, and value proposition development.
  • Analyze customer needs, behaviors, pain points, and opportunities using qualitative and quantitative inputs
  • Perform local and US benchmarking and industry analysis to identify best practices and competitive gaps.

Business Case & Evaluation

  • Develop and support business cases for segment initiatives, including opportunity sizing, financial impact, cost-benefit analysis, and implementation considerations.
  • Evaluate multiple strategic alternatives and scenarios, providing clear comparisons and recommendations.
  • Partner with Finance and Analytics teams to validate assumptions, projections, KPIs, and success metrics

Presentations & Executive Communication

  • Prepare presentations for different stakeholders including but not limited to Popular’s leaders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Translate complex analysis into clear, concise, and decision-focused insights tailored to different audiences.
  • Support in structuring narratives for leadership discussions and approvals.

Initiative Prioritization & Performance Tracking

  • Track performance of segment initiatives against defined KPIs and objectives, identifying risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as a key analytical partner to the Sr. Segment Manager when engaging with Marketing, CX, Digital, Technology, Risk, Compliance, and other business units across Popular.
  • Support alignment by documenting assumptions, decisions, dependencies, and conclusions in a clear and structured manner.
  • Participate in workshops, discovery sessions, and working teams, providing analytical support and follow-up.

Continuous Improvement & Methodology

  • Contribute to the refinement and standardization of segmentation methodologies, analytical frameworks, and tools.
  • Identify opportunities to improve analysis processes, templates, and recurring reporting.
  • Share insights and best practices to strengthen segment work across the organization.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This Job has no supervisory responsibilities but in special circumstances may lead the work of others.

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Finance, or a related field. 

Experience

  • At least three (3) to five (5) of experience supporting strategy, segmentation, customer insights, project management or business analytics, preferably within financial services.
  • Demonstrated experience working with stakeholders and cross-functional teams is preferred.
  • Experience data storytelling is a plus.

Other Qualifications

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-structuring skills.
  • Solid experience with financial analysis and business case development.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Self-driven, agile, and able to work independently and on multiple engagements simultaneously.
  • Strong ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments. 
  • Creative thinker and outstanding storyteller.
  • Experience developing or monitoring metrics.
  • Ability to present and interact with all levels of management, including executive leadership.
  • Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative information into clear conclusions.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; experience with Access preferred. 
  • Experience with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English.
