Senior Business Analyst

General Description
We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst to join the Retail Lending Operations Division. Our ideal candidate possesses excellent analytical skills and can translate metrics and data into strategies that support credit decisioning. Responsible for the analysis and control of processes related to credit policies for Puerto Rico, Popular Bank, VI and BVI, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency. This role prepares and analyzes reports, ensures proper documentation of policies, serves as SME and coordinates credit committees, among other responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit documentation for approval of the Risk Acceptance Criteria (RAC).
- Ensure that credit policies updates are documented in all applicable policy and procedure manuals.
- Manage Individual Lending Authority Processes and Certifications, including, but not limited to:
- Ensuring approval and revocation forms review and submission.
- Applicable records are up to date.
- Quarterly Lending Authority Certifications are completed.
- Evaluate credit denial reasons to ensure they are accurate and compliant with all regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate Risk Based Pricing data and update applicable notices as necessary to adhere to applicable regulations.
- Evaluate credit exceptions and submit summary memo with applicable Credit Policy change recommendations that will drive efficiency in the underwriting process.
- Support staff with questions regarding the application / underwriting processes and/or credit bureau reports.
- Coordinate and lead Credit Committee meetings.
- Execute the Popular Bank Line Management Process, including data gatherings, data evaluation and exception processing.
- Support Loans Pre-Selected and Credit Cards Direct Mailing campaigns through criteria evaluation and file audit review.
- Quarterly reports preparation / review, such as SOX and Risk Assessment reports.
- Annual review and revision of procedures, policies and documents, such as the Notice of Adverse Action (NOAA) letters.
- Review and update internal unit training material.
- Department expenses monitoring.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This Job has no supervisory responsibilities but in special circumstances may lead the work of others.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a business-related field preferred from an accredited university.
Experience
At least five (5) years of experience with credit underwriting with lending authority, credit risk analysis, and understanding of credit risk models are required.
An understanding of credit policies for individuals and consumer products is preferred.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of credit policies and credit bureau reports.
- Knowledge of applicable regulations such as Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, able to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively at all levels of management, with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills (in both English and Spanish).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Prepare presentations and documents summarizing credit/risk analyses for the management team.
- Familiarity with data visualization and BI tools and the ability to create comprehensible visualizations of complex information is a plus.
