Sr Account Executive | (Corporate Benefits Programs)

General Description
Lead the strategic design, implementation, and governance of Popular’s Corporate Benefits Programs, including health, welfare and wellness offerings. This role serves as a subject-matter expert and strategic advisor, ensuring benefits programs are competitive, compliant, financially sustainable, and aligned with organizational objectives.
The position manages benefits strategy for a large, complex, and predominantly self-insured employee population, providing executive-level insights, vendor oversight, and data-driven recommendations that directly impact employee experience, cost management, and long-term organizational performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Benefits Strategy & Program Management
• Design, implement, and manage comprehensive corporate benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, wellness, and ancillary offerings.
• Ensure benefits strategies align with business objectives, talent attraction and retention goals, and overall total rewards philosophy.
• Benchmark benefits programs against market and industry standards to maintain a competitive and sustainable benefits portfolio.
Open Enrollment & Employee Engagement
• Lead the strategic planning and execution of annual Open Enrollments for a population of approximately 9,000 employees.
• Develop and oversee clear, effective, and compliant employee communications to support informed benefits decision-making.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to support onboarding, life events, and ongoing employee benefits education.
Compliance, Risk & Governance
• Provide strategic oversight to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their operational and financial impact on benefits programs.
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, and internal governance teams to mitigate regulatory, financial, and operational risk.
Vendor & Financial Management
• Lead vendor strategy, including RFP processes, contract negotiations, renewals, and ongoing relationship management with carriers, third-party administrators and consultants.
• Negotiate multi-year agreements to optimize cost, service quality, and financial predictability.
• Evaluate vendor performance through scorecards, service-level reviews, and issue escalation management.
Data Analytics & Executive Reporting
• Analyze claims experience, utilization trends, and cost drivers to identify opportunities for cost containment and program optimization.
• Develop executive-level dashboards and reports for senior leadership, highlighting trends, risks, opportunities, and return on investment (ROI).
• Provide data-driven recommendations to support strategic decision-making and long-term benefits planning.
Stay up to date on benefits market and legislative updates.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or Health related field.
Puerto Rico Insurance Commissioner license, preferred.
Experience
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience managing corporate benefits programs within large, complex organizations.
Additional Requirements
• Deep expertise in self-insured benefits plan design, administration, and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated strength in vendor negotiations, financial analysis, and executive-level reporting.
• Strong project management, analytical, and strategic problem-solving skills.
• Fully bilingual (Spanish and English), with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools; experience with executive dashboards preferred.
• Health Management or Consulting experience.
• Addresses complex challenges, able to multi-task, prioritize and organize work with attention to detail in an aggressive deadline-oriented environment
• Innovative, creative problem solver with an eye for detail and accuracy
• Ability to work under pressure
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
