Mortgage Supervisor

General Description

Supervises and coordinates work of the employees as well as processes and operations within a particular unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in establishing unit goals and action plans.  Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, assigning and monitoring work to improve effectiveness. Communicate policies, practices, and procedures to employees and ensure compliance. Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies, determining appropriate course of actions. Helps develop and monitor budget for cost control.  Conducts staff meetings to discuss operational problems or explain procedural changes or practices.  Prepare project updates within required timeframe and delegate individual tasks to all employees.  Analyze all opportunities and recommend ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs.  Assist staff in managing difficult cases. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises at least 2 full time employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Coach and develop employees.  Foster a spirit of teamwork that allows for disagreement over ideas as well as diversity.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration

Experience

At least three years of related experience.

Certifications / Licenses

No certifications or license needed.

Other Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of mortgage lending operations, underwriting guidelines, credit analysis, loan structuring, and regulatory requirements.
  • Minimum of several years of experience in mortgage underwriting, including the evaluation of residential loan applications and credit risk assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Credit Analyst or in a similar role involving financial statement analysis, credit evaluation, and lending decisions.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience, with the ability to supervise, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency in Encompass Loan Origination System (LOS) is required.
  • Experience reviewing loan files for accuracy, completeness, quality, and compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
  • Strong understanding of federal and local mortgage compliance regulations, consumer lending requirements, and underwriting best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment in complex lending scenarios.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and operational objectives.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with customers, internal stakeholders, and business partners.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, referral partners, and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and other business applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation, loan analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability for departmental goals and service standards.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional service and operational excellence.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous supervisory experience within a mortgage underwriting, mortgage operations, or residential lending environment is strongly preferred.
