Sr. Commercial Banking Portfolio Officer

Middle Market - NY

 

This position is responsible for effective portfolio management, underwriting support and customer service. The Commercial Banking Portfolio Officer monitors covenant compliance, ensures reporting requirements are met timely, provides underwriting support for existing (new credit exposures and annual reviews of existing loans) and prospective customers and provides day to day support to the Commercial Relationship Officers and Team Leaders in insuring that customers are effectively serviced, their inquiries responded to, and operational situations resolved promptly and efficiently.

Given the amount of time the lending team is in the field, this individual is critical to providing consistent quality service in accordance with bank goals to attain growth, reduce losses and increase profitability and customer satisfaction.

In this position, you will:

 

  • Collaborate and consult with Commercial Banking Relationship Managers, Commercial Loan Servicing Specialists, the Director and Senior Leaders to resolve issues and achieve goals.

  • Manage the credit needs of the portfolio and assisting the Relationship Managers with underwriting new loans by analyzing financial statements, projections, and appraisals.  Analyzing current and prospective clients’ cash flows, leverage, ability to pay and identifying key risks.

  • Prepare, review and edit credit memos.

  • Monitor assigned portfolio of credit commitment to ensure on-going compliance with loan agreements, covenants and payoff requirements.  Raise issues early and make recommendations to resolve problem accounts in partnership with deal teams.

  • Ensure compliance with all policy and regulatory requirements.

  • Research, investigate, and resolve customer discrepancies, complaints, and payment issues.

  • Act as liaison with various units responsible for providing service to the commercial customer including but not limited to the processing of loans, payments, financial analysis, statements, etc. and ensure respective databases are accurate and up to date with customer information

  • Assist the relationship officers with Client management, which includes doing spreads, managing the loan pipeline from approval to close, as well as managing the loan portfolio with renewals, maturity, annual, quarterly, and semi-annual financial reviews

  • Compile and analyze data and generate management reports with recommendations as needed

  • Responsible for managing the relationship with third party servicers

  • Arrange closings of renewals and restructures and book same on loan system

  • Coordinate with management and internal legal counsel to ensure that legal counsel is assigned to cases where representation is necessary 

To be considered, you will need:

 

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Business Administration related field and/or 3 years’ experience managing commercial credit and non-credit products, including cash flow, financial and credit worthiness analysis.  Completion for formal bank credit training program desired.

  • Knowledge of relevant banking products, services, policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance related to area of responsibility. Keeps updated on changes to banking environment, bank competition, and customer’s business environment applicable to area of responsibility
      

Base Salary & Benefits

Our base salary for this position located in New York City generally ranges between  $151,000.00 and $165,000.00  annually, depending on business need and on your qualifications and experience. Base salary does not include incentive compensation, commission, or any other type of remuneration or benefits.

In addition to salary, Popular's well-rounded benefits package for regular full-time and part-time employees includes a comprehensive health plan, flexible time off options, and savings and investment plans. Seasonal/temporary employees are not eligible for these benefits.
